CHINA CABINET....YES. They are display cases for old things that never get used.
When we moved to Vancouver we bought a massive farm table and coordinating hutch to display our fine china and crystal. And then I used it to display serving pieces that we got as wedding gifts. And then we decided to update our furniture...so I gave away all the serving pieces because they were kinda ugly and not my vibe to a friend with a vintage booth as her birthday present. She sold the items and made some money. (very generous gift for me...it made me happy). And then we got rid of the hutch and we bought a significantly smaller cabinet for our good dishes. No one can see what's crammed inside. It's fabulous.
I have a friend with a MASSIVE dark wood formal china cabinet. She no longer wants it, but can't find a way to get rid of it....so it sits crammed in her dining room with a very eclectic collection of crap like a storage closet except that the closet has glass doors and we can see inside. It drives me BONKERS every time I see it.
I think she should get rid of all the stuff crammed inside, replace the glass with a solid, paint it and move it into her bedroom as a giant clothing storage item. Think of all the sweaters and shirts it could hold.
My mom still has her china cabinet. But she does actually use the dishes inside when the occasion presents itself. She gets them out at least 2x a year for sure- Thanksgiving and Christma ;) My wife's mom had one as well. We have opted for an antique sideboard/buffet instead. Instead of dishes stored inside, we have table linens, kitchen towels, bar glasses, and extra candles right now. And my cusp Leo-Virgo completely understands- "hey Virgo!".
I resonated with this a lot! It took parenting to get me to realize that perfect wasn’t actually important. I do still have issues letting go when it comes to my writing though!

She just rolls her eyes at me.
I’m with you, for the record.

I feel like that will never end for me. Making peace with it…chocolate helps.
Hahaha!! Chocolate ALWAYS helps!
