August is my birthday month, which is the first thing that makes it great (hello, Leo/Virgo cusp of adorable vanity). Secondly, for us nerds/lucky west coasters it’s the last days of summer vacation before school starts. Even before I became a teacher, I looked at August as the beginning of the year; January was just for wrapping up winter break fun. I make my big resolutions now, from fashion - very loosely defined - choices to lifestyle changes, like yet another diet & exercise plan for my evermorphing perimenopausal body that I am desperately trying not to be mad at because what good does that do? Better to just change out of pajamas, put on shoes, refill my water bottle, connect phone to office Bluetooth, set up my exercise bike, find a podcast I like and ride for 40 minutes while occasionally lifting dumbbells without falling off/crying/missing part of the podcast. Easy. Every day.
Anyway, I do love the possibilities of August.
Here I am mid-ride, listening to Selected Shorts, envisioning myself fitting comfortably into all the cute clothes I bought during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale (another August event!) and living my best stable life of writing & traveling.
And here is Zelda taunting me with her never-give-a-shit no-pants-needed I-eat-what-I-want sunbathing pose literally under my pedaling feet.
I met today’s goal (actually 41:14 minutes because I like a numeric palindrome), sweated but did not pass out, drank my whole bottle of water, and heard two good stories. Then I ate one of the chocolate-covered macadamia nuts my son brought me from Hawaii.
Baby steps.
I love August because it means that July is over and not to be endured again for a year.
I am truly enjoying all of your writing! Keep on keepin' on! Baby steps, big steps, all of the steps. AND- Happy Birthday Month fellow Leo-Virgo cusper <3
